Drive into Burley one of the prettiest villages in the New Forest and look for the Large Cider Barrel on the Pavement and you will find the home of the New Forest Cider. Their shop as seen opposite has been modernised from the early days of above but cider it still made the traditional way in many ways on a New Forest Commoners small holding. A New Forest Commoner has registered rights and which was given to commoners earlier this century. New Forest Cider is nothing like in taste or look as the cider you buy in the supermarket. Here at New Forest Cider Barry Topp the owner uses only English Apples, and are just fermented juice pressed from apples from his own orchards, Dorset and Somerset. (Imported Apples are never used). You can purchase New Forest Cider straight from the barrels stored in converted cow sheds any time of the year. At the moment we have sweet, medium, dry, Kingston Black or perry to sample and buy. Apple juice is also a bottled favourite. |
Have you seen the cider man, he travels all the shows He'll pass the time of day away with everyone he knows But if you are stranger, then don't you pass him by Until you've had a pint or two of his medium, sweet or dry. |

Come and see cider making as it was done in days gone by at the New Forest Cider Farms annual open weekend in Burley. During the weekend of 16 & 17th October 2010 from 11am – 4.30pm we shall be demonstrating the art of cider making the old fashioned way with a variety of vintage presses, ranging from a 'workman' steam driven mobile press to the simplicity of a hand operated twin screw press using straw as a filter, then sample the finished product in our farm shop. There will also be traditional country craft demonstrations including hurdle making and wood turning, steam engine and tractor displays, swing boats and coconut shy. There will be no parking available at the cider farm during the weekend, but we offer free tractor and trailer rides from the village centre car parks to the farm. |
